Gum Bleeding
Our teeth take on the task of chewing and speaking together with the gums that surround and support them. Healthy gingiva is pink in color, clings to our teeth in a hard consistency and does not bleed. If we see a red and swollen gum when we look in the mirror, it means that there is a problem with our gums. Bad breath and bleeding gums when we brush our teeth are also symptoms of gum disease.
After the foods and beverages we eat (especially sugary and acidic beverages), an invisible bacterial layer forms on our teeth. This layer, which we call bacterial plaque, starts the formation of tartar by growing on teeth that are not regularly brushed and neglected. Over time, tartar surrounds the tooth, causing recessions and inflammation in the gums. If left untreated, they can cause loss of the supporting bone and tooth loss in the future. With the gingival treatment and calculus cleaning performed by the dentist, bad breath, gingivitis and bleeding gums are prevented and your gums regain their health.
Situations where Gum Bleeding is More Common
During pregnancy,
In diabetes patients,
During menstrual periods in women
In cases of drug use,
In cases of stress,
In cases of clenching and grinding,
In cases where oral and dental care is not adequate.
How Does Gum Disease Occur?
Dental plaque and tartar start the gum disease called gingivitis. Symptoms of gingivitis are redness of the gums, swelling of the gums, bad smell, tooth sensitivity caused by hot and cold drinks, and bleeding gums. If this disease is not treated, it can turn into a disease called periodontitis, which causes the bone surrounding the teeth to melt.
Bone loss causes loosening of the teeth and tooth loss. The tartar surrounding the teeth also exposes the root surfaces of the teeth. The beginnings of rot may occur on the unprotected root surfaces. Gum diseases should be reviewed and treated by a dentist.
Good oral care (brushing our teeth at least twice and for 2 minutes, using dental floss and antibacterial mouthwashes) positively affects the success of the treatment and prevents the recurrence of these diseases.
