The tooth has a crown part that is visible in the mouth and a root part that remains in the jawbone. In the center of the crown and root, there is the vascular-nerve package called the pulp, which provides the nourishment and vitality of the tooth. The enamel and dentin layers protect the pulp from the outside in the mouth. With the removal of these hard tissues that protect the pulp as a result of caries or trauma, the vascular-nerve package is exposed and causes pain. Endodontic treatment mainly aims to remove this damaged vessel and nerve structure, to remove microorganisms that may cause infection in the root canal, and then to fill this area, which has been cleaned and shaped with various instruments, with a suitable filling material.

What are the conditions that cause root canal treatment?

Root canal treatment is primarily performed for deep caries. This structure is damaged as a result of the deepening of the tooth decay and reaching the vascular-nerve package called the pulp, which provides the nutrition and vitality of the tooth. The damaged pulp tissue is removed with root canal treatment and this area is filled with a biocompatible filler.

In addition, even if there is no caries, root canal treatment may be required as a result of exposure of the pulp tissue after trauma or inflammation of the pulp tissue due to other reasons.

It is normal to feel sensitivity when the treated tooth is pressed and chewed. This sensitivity will decrease over time.
